Civil War Preservation and Remembrance
In creating this website for Ken Broadwater it was clear to see from the information supplied about the family that Mr. Lucas is not just your average "history buff", but that he has a deep passion and love for this particular subject.

In the press release provided by ABC this same passion is again acknowledged as they highlight some of his past work in preserving Civil War battlefields as well as his sizeable and growing collection of memorabilia from this time as well.

Therefore, in creating this website it seemed only fitting to acknowledge that passion and let others also share their thoughts and appreciation for the work that he has done already, and the additional work that he will be able to do as a result of the new home he will be receiving from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ken Broadwater Homes LLC and the many, many project volunteers and partners.

Welcome home Lucas Family. Living right on the border of Rice,my boys and myself were so excited that such a deserving family is getting the dream you invisioned. We visited the site of your new home today.  It was very exciting.  It is unbelievable how many volunteers are at this site.  It is also amazing how Prince Edward county has not only handled but accomodated everyone so we could watch your dream come true in action. I have heard so many touching stories about your family. God Bless your family for not only protecting our country but also for writing the grants for the sensory playground for autistic children.  Again, welcome home and thank you for all you do.

We can't think of another family so deserving as Michael & Jean and their boys for this special honor. Michael is so involved with the history of our State of Virginia and preservation thereof and in his belief of our Nation under God that he has given many years to making others see the importance of our history in how it affects us today. The first time I met Michael was when I was helping my husband clean the confederate statue in Charlotte Court House, VA. I have never met such a knowledgeable informative history buff as him with so much passion for it. Since then I became interested in going to “The War Between the States” reenactments and museums with my husband, Larry. Thank you for sharing history lessons, Michael. I am also so proud of Jean for her hard work and dedication in raising and home schooling their sons and for all the activities she is involved in with the other women in our area. Thank you, Jean for being such an inspiration for all of us who have or had military spouses. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas and May God Bless you and your family in your NEW HOME. :)

I went to Longwood College and my Dad grew up in Buckingham County so I know the area. It is a beautiful part of Virginia filled with "real" folks, kind, considerate and giving folks. I do not know the Lucas family but if "Extreme Home Makeover" chose them then I know they are a deserving family. Reading what their friends and family have written only confirms it more! I love what Ty and the show do for good people week after week and  what better time than Christmas! Good luck and God bless you all, especially Broadwater Homes for all that you're doing to help this family.

I listened to the excitement on the radio yesterday morning and was thinking to myself what a fantastic Christmas surprise for such a deserving family!  It wasn't until this morning that the tears began to flow when I found out it was Micheal and his family being helped. Having gone to elementary school with Micheal and then "bumping" in to him several years ago, it was obvious he had turned his life around and was extremely passionate about his family and country.  My heart has grown today with the reminder of how helping others can really change lives. I wish Micheal, his family, and every volunteer involved many blessings.  Congratulations!
